It would be great if a big contingent of birders helped out with the beach
sweep and habitat restoration work at Montrose. Note the bribe of birding
beforehand, coffee, breakfast and free t-shirts!

Montrose Bird Walk and Beach Sweep
Bird Walk: 7 a.m. – 9 a.m., Leader: Geoff Williamson
Meeting place: East side of Montrose Beach House (near the stone bathroom
building)
Beach Sweep & Habitat Restoration: 9 a.m. – 12 noon, Leader: Christine
Williamson
Meeting place: North side of Montrose Beach House (facing the beach)
Montrose in September can be the ultimate birding experience, and as a
birder, you can contribute to the health of the beach, dunes and upland
habitats that migrant, nesting and wintering birds rely upon by either cleaning
up trash or working on habitat restoration.
This is an opportunity to both bird and volunteer in a single morning!
Volunteers will receive breakfast courtesy of Whole Foods Market and a
t-shirt from the Sierra Club for your donation of a couple of hours to Montrose.

First, Montrose veteran birder, Geoff Williamson, will lead a bird walk to
scour all the habitats that Montrose has to offer – beach, dunes, upland
point, harbor and open lake views.
At 9:00 a.m., breakfast and a rousing speech by Congressman Mike Quigley
at the Montrose Beach House. Congressman Quigley works on Lake Michigan, BP
oil spill and other natural resources issues.
Then COS, Sierra Club's Chicago group, Alliance for the Great Lakes, Ocean
Conservancy and Montrose habitat stewards, will work on trash clean-up or
habitat restoration. Full training is offered.
You can participate in just the bird walk or just the beach
sweep/restoration event, but hopefully, you’ll come for both. Christine Williamson,
