Dear friends,

I am forwarding this from Gail and Emil Biedron. I'm just the messenger,
not the lette writer -- so read as you see fit.

Best wishes,

Sheryl De Vore

Here is the Biedron's Email:

Phone Tree - HELP ! URGENT !

TIME IS CRITICAL-- On Wed. April 16, the Cook County Commissioner might

vote on the issue descibed below, so call them before that date.

Please ask five or more of your environmentally minded friends,

relatives, and co-workers that live in Cook County to call their Cook

County Commissioner. The County Board (Cty.Bd.) district # is listed on

their voter identification card. The commissioner's names, districts,

and phone numbers are listed below.

When calling, tell the commissioner's staff member, that you are a

registered voter in that district and give your name, address, and phone

number. Please do not mention that you were asked to make this call.

State that you want the Cook County Forest Preserve District to purchase

the 54 acre St. Coletta's/ Kennedy School property in Palos Park as an

addition to their forest preserve holdings. Tell them some reasons why

acquisition of this property is important. Some suggestions are listed

below:

1) To protect and preserve this strategically located property, which

is surrounded on three sides by forest preserve land.

2) To protect the delicate ecology of the surrounding area from

pollution and poisoning caused by pesticides,

herbicides, and pool chemicals draining from the proposed

subdivision.

3) To protect the large prairie and wetland restoration being done

adjacent to the property by the U.S. Corp of Engineers.

4) To protect the large and varied plant and animal life of the area.

5) To protect the endangered bird species, which nests near the border

of the St. Coletta's property.

6) To protect the Bergman Slough, one of the few remaining high quality

prairie sloughs in Illinois.

To further help the cause, please ask your friends if they could also

call several of their friends ( and so on ) with the same request, thus

continuing the phone tree.

Even if you live outside Cook County, calls can be made to the Cook

County Commissioners. Those from districts 4, 8, 9, and 17 would be

good choices, because of their assignments.

Calls can also be made to United States Congresswoman Judy Biggert (13th

district) at her Clarendon Hills office, 630-655-2052. The 54 acre St.

Coletta's/ Kennedy School property in Palos Park and surrounding

preserves are in her district. She has been informed of this project.

Citizen input and concern might help in obtaining funding.
