IEEE Power Engineering Society

Chicago Chapter 1999-2000

Midwest Independent System Operator (ISO)

Wednesday, February 9, 2000

Robert A. Schrage

Manager of Regulatory Projects, Commonwealth Edison Company

About the Topic

The major reasons for developing the Midwest ISO include the following:

  1. Provide access to a large regional transmission system.
  2. Solve transmission pricing problems: pancaking of rates and loop flow issues.
  3. Maintain or improve system reliability and security.
  4. Coordinated planning of the transmission system.

This presentation will cover some of the current Midwest ISO implementation issues, as well as the potential impact on Northern Illinois electric service.
