The Children's Museum proposal will negatively impact birds in the northern
end of Grant Park. Please fill out the survey to keep open space open for
birds.

Hi All,
The Chicago Park District is preparing to make changes to the area they
are calling North Grant Park - the northeast corner of Grant Park
including the location of the proposed Chicago Children's Museum.
Because of water leakage into the East Monroe Street Parking Garage,
some changes must be made. However, the Chicago Park and its architects
are keeping their cards close to their chest regarding plans for the
museum. As far as we know, the Chicago Children's Museum is forging ahead
with their plans to build in Grant Park.
A survey is being circulated by the Chicago Park District to collect
public input. Please participate and be heard! Share the link with your
fellow park lovers.

At a public meeting with the architect, one attendee expressed the
simple concern that any design for the park should be true park, and
not include shopping. The architect's response? A space this size would
almost certainly include some type of selling.
The Grant Park East Parking Garage lease deal allowed for only a
relatively modest budget of $30 million for resurfacing the garage roof.
However, at public meetings the possibility of grander (and more
expensive!) plans have been suggested. An August 7 report in Chicago
Gazette mentioned costly proposed changes including narrowing Monroe
drive and building an underpass at Queen's landing (Lake Shore Drive at
Buckingham fountain, formerly a pedestrian crossing). No information
about these or other current proposals is posted on the website for the
North Grant Park project.
As plans for changes to Grant Park grow ever more elaborate and
expensive, who do you think will end up shouldering the bill? And who
will benefit - the people of Chicago, or private interests including the
Chicago Children's Museum, restaurateurs and vendors?
Best Regards,
Peggy Figiel
