URGENT! ACT NOW TO SAVE THE ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT

Congress to vote THIS THURSDAY on legislation that turns the clock back 30 years
on endangered species conservation

We urgently need your help to stave off an unprecedented attack on the Endangered Species Act that will leave America's most imperiled wildlife such as the Whooping Crane, Spotted Owl, and gray wolf stripped of the protections that have, until now, prevented them from going extinct.

The deceptively named Threatened and Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2005 (H.R.3824), sponsored by Congressmen Richard Pombo (R-CA) and Dennis Cardoza (D-CA), passed out of committee last week and is slated for a full vote in the House of Representatives as early as this Thursday. This legislation will undo much of the efforts of the past 30 years, and will sacrifice our most precious wildlife heritage for the sake of big business, special interests, and land developers. The proposed legislation would abandon sound science in favor of political influence, would pave the way for such hazardous chemicals as DDT to once more poison our wildlife, and strips crucial habitat protections for endangered species. What You Can Do.
Without immediate public action, the bill looks certain to pass the House. Please help us prevent the irreversible consequences of this act. Contact your state's elected officials any way you can. Let them know that you vehemently oppose any weakening of the Endangered Species Act, and request that they vote against Pombo's bill when it comes to the floor. Use the links below to find contact information for your Senators and Representatives. Call them, fax them, email them. Make sure your voice is heard.

Thank you for your commitment to bird conservation.

Sincerely,

George Fenwick
President, American Bird Conservancy
