BCN friends;

I just attended a press conference at Ft. Sheridan where Congressman Mark
Kirk, (R-10 Dist) announced House passage of a bill that will allow for the
transfer of the 2-mile section of lakefront forested bluff and ravines from
the Navy to a public-private partnership land trust.  This action will
forever protect this important portion of the Lake Michigan flyway from
high-rise development.  Other partners are the Openlands Project and the
City of Highland Park.

Because of its bi-partisan support, Congressman Kirk is confident of Senate
passage in October and this bill becoming law.

I spoke at the press conference on behalf of BCN, expressing appreciation to
the Congressman for his leadership in protecting this important section of
migratory songbird habitat.
