POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT<br>
</font><font face=3D"Times New Roman, Times" size=3D1>Appointment</b>:
One temporary, hourly, field assistant position (40 hours/week with
possible overtime) is available at the Illinois Natural History Survey
for summer 2004. The assistant will work with Survey ornithologists to
conduct statewide monitoring of birds for the Critical Trends Assessment
Program (CTAP). Duties include: independently conducting field
surveys of birds in forests, wetlands, and grasslands throughout
Illinois, collecting GPS (Global Positioning System) data in the field,
and assisting with office work, data entry and preparation for field
work.<br>
<b>Qualifications: </b> Candidates must be able to identify all species
of birds likely to occur in Illinois by both sight and sound (song and/or
call) and must have field experience with Midwestern bird species.
Candidate should have undergraduate course work in biology, botany,
ornithology or related subjects. Experience with collecting GPS data in
the field and experience orienteering is preferable. Applicants
must be willing and able to: 1) work outside under a variety of
field and environmental conditions, and 2) travel regularly for 3-4 days
at a time to various parts of Illinois with overnight stays.
Overtime work is expected. A valid automobile driver's license is also
required.<br>
<b>Rate of Pay:</b> $8.00 - $10.00 / hour, depending on
experience.<br>
<b>Time Period</b>: Position begins approximately May 17, 2004 and
will continue to approximately August 1, 2004.<br>
