Dear BCN,
This is just in from CNN and features one of our greatest resources on the
critical conservation issue of bird/buildings collisions, Dr. Klem.

Birds striking buildings are by far the leading cause of bird mortality in
the world. Avian mortality estimates  from strikes begin  at 100million and
go to 1 billion birds...per year.....
in the US alone!

So move those bird feeders up against your windows, pull shades, decal your
windows that reflect trees, use bird screen etc.  Usually only one or two
windows at a home are the killer reflective type and these can be easily
adjusted to save birds. Dr. Klem thinks a significant number of these
collisions fatalities occur at homes in winter months (often related to
feeder placement).
