Fellow Bird Conservation Enthusiasts,

As many of you know, the Chicago Park District has been working to make =
Jackson Park's Wooded Island as bird-friendly as possible. As part of =
this, they designated Jackson Park's Wooded Island off limits to dogs. =
There is currently an effort underway by some Hyde Park residents to =
revoke this dog ban.

If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to compose a quick message to =
David Doig, General Superintendent of the Chicago Park District, showing =
your support for the continuation of the dog ban on Wooded Island. Some =
points to raise include:

 - dogs have access to almost all other parks in Chicago
 - dogs can disrupt and otherwise negatively affect the "birding =
experience"
 - dogs can potentially harm birds, either directly (by chasing, etc.) =
or indirectly (by forcing birds to stop feeding, become exposed to =
predators, etc.)
 - migratory birds are stressed and vulnerable enough during migration; =
they need all the help they can get, particularly in urban areas where =
appropriate habitat is scarce
 - people, including birders, deserve a place to enjoy nature without =
the disturbance of dogs

Please send your comments to David Doig =
(david.doig@chicagoparkdistrict.com) and cc: the Jackson Park Advisory =
Council via Gary Ossewaarde (garyossewaarde@yahoo.com).

Or, if you prefer to send regular mail:
