Program Announcement

May 28 - British Birding: London and Southeast England
Dusty Gedge, Green Roofs Specialist and Birder
Dusty will be in Chicago for a conference on Green Roofs (Gardens in the Sky)
and has agreed to present a program for COS and BCN on birding in London and
southeast England and his experience adapting urban habitats for a rare bird.
Dusty has been studying the ways that native redstarts in Britain have
benefited from rooftop and other urban habitats, but also is an avid
"twitcher"
and knows the area around London well. Join us to find out more about birding
in the country that more or less invented bird watching!
7 pm, North Park Village Nature Center, 5801 North Pulaski Road, Chicago

‘…redstarts and rubble..  encounters with birds and making a difference’
Dusty runs the black redstart action plan for the London Biodiversity
Partnership and sits on the Sand Martin, Wasteland and Peregrine Action Plan
working groups. He works as a consultant on issues relating to urban birds and
green roofs.  His stories will set the scene for how a passion for birds and
sense of place have provided a spring board to challenge conceptions of bird
conservation in London through innovation, design and broad collaboration.
His
knowledge of black redstarts and how they can be incorporated into major urban
regeneration schemes brings him to Chicago.
