Director, Alireza Khaligh

Alireza Khaligh Alireza Khaligh is an Assistant Professor and The Director of Energy Harvesting and Renewable Energies Laboratory (EHREL) at the Electric Power and Power Electronics Center (EPPEC) of Electrical and computer engineering Department at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), where he has established courses and curriculum in the area of energy harvesting and renewable energy sources.

Dr. Khaligh received the B.S. and M.S. degrees (with highest distinction) from Sharif University of Technology (SUT), Tehran, Iran, and a Ph.D. degree from Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago, IL, all in electrical engineering. He was a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in electrical and computer engineering department in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Urbana, IL.

Dr. Khaligh is the recipient of the 2009 Armour College of Engineering Excellence in Teaching Award from Illinois Institute of Technology. He is also a recipient of NSF Fellowship in Energy Challenge and Nanotechnology. Dr. Khaligh is the recipient of the Exceptional Talents Fellowship from Sharif University of Technology. He is also the recipient of the Distinguished Undergraduate Student Award in Sharif University of Technology presented jointly by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology and President of Sharif University. He is a Member of the Vehicle Power and Propulsion Committee, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS), a Member of IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS), Industrial Electronics Society (IES), IEEE Education Society, and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Dr. Khaligh is the Conference Chair of IEEE Chicago Section and a Member at Large of IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC).

Dr. Khaligh is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. Dr. Khaligh is a Guest editor for Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology on Vehicular Energy Storage Systems. Dr. Khaligh is also a Guest editor for Special Section of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics on Energy Harvesting.

Dr. Khaligh is a member of the Power Sources Manufacturers Association (PSMA) University Resources. Dr. Khaligh is the principle author/coauthor of over 50 journal and conference papers as well as three books including Energy Harvesting: Solar, Wind, and Ocean Energy Conversion Systems (CRC Press, 2009), Energy Sources, Elsevier Power Electronics Handbook (Elsevier, 2009), and Integrated Power Electronics Converters and Digital Control (CRC Press, 2009). His major research interests include modeling, analysis, design, and control of power electronic converters, hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, energy scavenging/harvesting from environmental sources, renewable energies, and design of energy-efficient power supplies for battery-powered portable applications.
