R-MAG Magnetic Actuator Breakers

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

Arney Kaner

ABB

About the Topic

R-MAG represents a new technology with regard to both the breaker's operating mechanism and the pole construction. The breaker utilizes ABB's revolutionary magnetic actuator drive, that has only one moving part and does not require any maintenance. There is no spring and therefore no electrical motor is required. ABB's unique "embedded pole" construction protects the vacuum interrupter from contaminated ambient air, thus increasing the life of an interrupter to 30,000 cycles.

About the Speaker

Arney Kaner graduated from Omsk Polytechnical Institute, Russian Federation in 1975, with MS in Electrical Engineering and major in Power Distribution Systems for Cities and Industrial Plants. From 1975 to 1988 has been working as a field engineer doing start up, performance testing, and commissioning of substations and switchgear on voltage levels from 6kV to 115 kV.

From 1989 has been living in the US and working as a consulting engineer for various companies. Designed power distribution systems on 15kV and 35 kV voltage levels with demand up to 130 MVA for large hospitals, university campuses and industrial sites. In 2011 left the consulting engineering industry and joined ABB as the Regional Application Engineer, Medium Voltage Products.
