IEC Standard 61850

Wednesday, November 14, 2007

Brent Duncan

Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution, Inc.

About the Topic

IEC 61850 is a new philosophy in substation design providing cost-effective access to operational and non-operational data. You will learn how easy it is to use and how it simplifies your substation. At the same time you will get more value with drastically reduced engineering effort. Remove the frustrations of interfacing problems and see how the new standard gives birth to a new generation of easy to manage substation information systems. The new standard makes your designs future-proof and therefore secures your investments.

IEC 61850 is the international standard for substation information systems. It defines interdevice communication on the bay level and is the base for plug and play technology to become real. All substation automation functions and their engineering are covered. Ideas behind IEC 61850 are also applicable in areas of automation such as control and monitoring of distributed generation. The use of IEC 61850 is possible far beyond electrical networks and its use in gas networks, water networks and Greenfield applications is evolving.

SICAM is the Siemens solution for a new generation of cutting edge substation information systems that will make your substation smart, simple and intelligent.
