Detect and Isolate Denial of Service (DoS) Attacks in Error-Prone Multi-hop Wireless Networks
In this work, we considered the problem of detecting selective forwarding attacks, a kind of denial of service attacks that are easy to launch but difficult to detect in error-prone wireless networks. We proposed a channel aware detection algorithm (CAD) that utilized the methodologies of time based wireless channel estimation (MAC collisions, normal wireless errors) and data monitoring to discriminate the attackers from normal wireless losses. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to account for the normal wireless losses (modeling MAC layer collisions and wireless errors) in a channel to effectively detect the attackers.
