That should be 525 pages not 5250, but it seems like thousands.

Subject: [BCNnet] BP air permit cancelled

Well folks we have a victory!

The August 9, BP air permit public hearing was just cancelled. It was the
one I requested to be held in Whiting in the evening instead of in
Merrillville at 1 p.m. in the IDEM regional office.

The public hearing was on a BP air permit, over 5250 pages, but no one knew
exactly what it was about. However, I found out, through much searching that
it is about a new BP asphalt plant, which is connected to the BP expansion
plan. This was not the air permit about the huge refinery expansion, but
another permit that would clear the way for it. It was the BP wastewater
permit that has been constantly in the news. Now BP must go through a public
process to earn air permits.

Last week, residents protested the asphalt plant at a Hammond zoning board
meeting resulting in the zoning board delaying approval for 30 days. That
was a mimi victory. (There are many sub-plots to the BP refinery expansion.)
Believe me the air permit on the asphalt plant would, again, make headlines
and bigger headaches for BP, IDEM, and all of the politicians that allowed
the BP expansion plan to go under the radar.

Residents planned to mobilize for the Aug. 9 meeting with a 'no confidence"
in Easterly attitude. Great news.
