Canada geese are protected under federal law because they are considered a
migratory species.

But that doesn't describe the geese around here. You won't find a lot of
these birds hitting the migratory flyways when signaled to do so by the
change in the seasons. They are quite content to stay here year-round. The
only migrating they do is from one detention pond to another, from one park
to another, from one athletic field to another, from one golf course to
another and from one corporate campus to another.

find a way to keep goose droppings from piling up on its grassy fields. In
this case, at Armstrong Park, to the disgust of youth football players who
have to roll around in the stuff. We don't blame parents for complaining.
The park district said this week that it plans to hire a company called Wild
Goose Chasers to keep the geese away.
