The Chicago Ornithological Society invites all BCNnet to join -

A Weekend with Ted Floyd, editor, "Birding" - the magazine of the American
Birding Association. --- May 20-22, 2006

DINNER / PRESENTATION - Saturday, May 20

"NIGHT: THE FINAL FRONTIER"

In Ted's words: "When we birders think of exotic destinations, we often
envision such venues as the tropics or the arctic, pelagic birding or remote
wilderness areas. But what about simply going to the local park--or even
into our own backyards--at nighttime? There's a lot more out there than just
owls, nightjars, and maybe a night-heron or rail or two. Depending on the
conditions, you can actually observe more birds at night than by day--with
many of them engaged in fascinating behaviors that are rarely if ever
detected except at night.

Location - Leona's [Pizza] Restaurant on Taylor Street (easily accessed from
the Eisenhower)

Total cost is $20.00.

PROGRAM - Monday, May 22

"THE FUTURE OF BIRDING" Ted says, "Birding in North American has undergone
a period of steady and sustained growth, and we are that the point now where
we might think of birding as a "mature" or "middle aged" institution. What
do the years ahead promise? Will the pace of growth and change slow down?
Stay about the same? Or maybe even accelerate? This presentation will make
the case that dramatic and exciting changes lay just around the corner for
the American birder."

Location: 7:00 p.m. at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon
Dr., Chicago, IL. Contact Tom Kelly by email tkelly_1 at hotmail.com or by
phone at 773.655.8792 for more information
