I've so pleased to forward this email from Libby Hill as local birders have
wanted access to this site for a long time. (Unfortunately I'll be away
this weekend so I'll miss seeing you all).

Regards,

September 16, 2006 - Saturday

SPECIAL SHOREBIRD TRIP TO LAKE CALUMET SEWAGE PONDS. Long acknowledged as
one of the region's premier shorebird spots, this facility has been closed
to birders for several years. Now, the facility is being opened to tour
groups by special arrangements. Evanston North Shore Bird Club is working
out details with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District. On Saturday,
September 16, a group of 25 birders will be allowed to bird this potentially
marvelous area. A quick scouting trip on August 26 revealed 10 species of
shorebirds, and with more eyes and more time the chances are excellent
something exciting will turn up. Although we can't, guarantee results, you
shouldn't pass up this rare opportunity. PRE-REGISTRATION ABSOLUTELY
REQUIRED! Meet at 6:45 a.m. at the Calumet Plant. Leaders: Joel Greenberg
and Walter Marcisz.

Instructions:

Registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. E-mail Libby Hill
at libbyhill at comcast.net or call her at 847-475-2096 requesting to be on the
list. The e-mail subject line should read something like "Calumet Field
Trip request." Libby will reply to your e-mail or phone call with further
instructions that will include how to send her a copy of your driver's
license or other government-issued ID, plus signed waiver forms.

At the plant, you will need to have your binoculars and scopes in a bag with
your name on it. The bag will be collected at the entrance, along with your
ID that matches the one you sent earlier. It will be transported by MWRD
personnel to our birding location, where you will retrieve it.

We expect this trip to fill up quickly. If you are not among the first 25
to sign up, please realize that September 16 is only the pilot for what we
believe will be regular opportunities for future field trips by other groups
to the Calumet plant.
