The City DOE invites all of us who care about birds and nature in the city to this event...

Please join Mayor Richard M. Daley and the City of Chicago Department of Environment at a Press Event to announce the release of the Chicago Region Birding Trail Guide, which features some of the most outstanding natural areas in the region for bird and nature enthusiasts.

When: Saturday, June 4, 2005 at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Where: Chicago Park DistrictÂ’s Wooded Island, Jackson Park (6401 S. Stony Island)

The Guide provides maps, locations, and descriptions of over 70 premier sites to view birds in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, and will be available free of charge to residents and visitors through visitor information centers, airports, museums, park districts, forests preserves, and other venues. Produced by the City of Chicago Department of Environment with the support of the Bird Conservation Network (BCN), additional funding was supplied by Chicago Wilderness, the Illinois Bureau of Tourism, and Lettuce Entertain You.

We anticipate that Robyn Thorson, US Fish and Wildlife Service's Regional Director for the Great Lakes Region, will join us for the event, along with members of the birding community and representatives from the eighteen landowners represented in the Guide.

Directions: From Lake Shore Drive (U.S. 41) turn west onto Science Drive (at approximately 5800 South Lake Shore Drive) then turn south into the parking lot (immediately behind the Museum of Science and Industry). Follow the Press Event signs from this parking lot.
