Major clean up work relating to Kerr McGee remediation
will begin shortly in the West Branch of the Dupage
River near Blackwell Forest Preserve. Somewhat in
conjunction with these clean up efforts, Dupage County
will likely receive a grant of approximately $10
million from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) for habitat restoration. Dupage
County Forest Preserve and possibly other governmental
organizations have submitted preliminary proposals to
NOAA for review.

The River Prairie Group (Dupage County) of the Sierra
Club is coordinating an informational question and
answer session with John Oldenberg, Director of
Natural Resources of the Dupage County Forest
Preserve. The meeting will consist of a half-hour
presentation, a question and answer period and a
walking tour of Blackwell Preserve to see where the
specific restoration efforts are proposed.

The purpose of this meeting is to gather information
and ask questions to understand the process, the
habitat restoration proposals and how funds will be
spent. This meeting is an opportunity for the
conservation community and other concerned groups to
be involved in the process and contribute to the
outcome.

Because of the size of the meeting place, seating is
limited. The meeting is open to anyone with an
interest in the subject; however, if space becomes
limited, it might be best to give priority to folks
with experience in river, wetland or habitat
restoration. Based on the interest level, it may be
possible to coordinate another meeting at later date.

The meeting will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, May
18th at Blackwell Forest Preserve in Dupage County.
Please let me know if you are interested in attending
and I can provide more specific information. My

Thank you,

John Landman
