The=20

The Peterson Field Guide to Advanced Birding.=E2=80=9D Often credited with b=
ridging=20
the gap between professional and citizen birding enthusiasts, Kaufman=E2=80=
=99s latest=20
innovation is digitally altering multiple photographs to produce the most=20
accurate images of birds in the field as possible. A regular contributor to=20=
major=20
birding publications, he also serves as field editor for =E2=80=9CAudubon=
=E2=80=9D magazine.=20
At the Arboretum, he turns his attention to birds and butterflies.

presentation.
=20
At 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, Kaufman discusses =E2=80=9CA Birder Looks at=20
Butterflies.=E2=80=9D Having gained attention as a top birder as a teenager,=
 the author=20
understands the fascination with birds and butterflies among people of all a=
ges.=20
Kaufman will delight audiences with this light-hearted presentation that wil=
l=20

=20
The youngest person to receive the American Birding Association=E2=80=99s hi=
ghest=20
honor, Kaufman dropped out of high school at age 16, then student body presi=
dent,=20
to pursue his passion. He began an 80,000-mile odyssey across the country to=
=20
break the bird-sighting record in a single year, which he did, launching him=
=20
to international recognition. Roger Tory Peterson then selected him to=20
illustrate and write the first guide to North American birds, =E2=80=9CThe P=
eterson Field=20
