Hi everyone,
Does anyone know anything about the planned stainless steel mirror sculptur=
e
that will adorn Millennium Park?
It will be a mirrored steel surface 20 ft tall by 30 ft wide by 60 ft long =
.
It will reflect the lake, Michigan Ave and I imagine many trees as well.

I for one am very concerned about birds hitting this if it reflects trees,
sky and lake.
Night flood lights at night will be another hazard. We already have some o=
f
our worst collision areas close to the park
at the Art Institute and the E Randolph area.

Just the highly reflective glass across from Grant park at the Art Institut=
e
is killing up to maybe 6 birds a day ( I am guessing).
I have found 4 sitting there on several occasions and there is a huge
predator problem there- we don=B9t see most of the birds the hit.
A structure close to that size made of mirrored steel, in a park ,no less,
makes me shudder. =20

Is there any way for the Collision Monitors to share what they are learning
about bird collisions with the city planners?

This sculpture is a unique concern but there are other new buildings going
up that have the MO for bird collision traps as well.

Thanks for any info on the sculpture or tips on who I might talk to to
share what we are learning.
