This is a heads-up for Chicagoans (and everyone else too).

Below is a description of what happened with the petition to allow dogs on
Wooded Isle. "Quinlan" is the person promoting the dog-island . The "meeting"
is the Jackson Park Advisory Council (JPAC).   "Doug" is birder Doug Anderson;
he leads the Wooded Isle bird walks.

Doig is David Doig - the General Superintendent of the Chicago Park District.
He apparently lacks any active conservation genes. (Mary Van Haaften is a
[wonderful] park district manager in the natural resources department.)

The emphasis was included by the reporter - the secretary of JPAC.

Just because Doig was convinced not to act now doesn't mean this issue is
over. The next step would be for the dog group to go to the Alderman -
Hairston, whose track record re conservation issues is muddled. (But her campaign
theme is clear: "I do what my constituents ask me to do.")

Here's the easy way to contact both the City and the Chicago Park District:

If the pro-dog-island group does move their proposal forward, it is important
that the city and park officials know that there are citizens who feel
strongly about keeping nature areas dog-free.
