[BCNnet] Safe trap for stuck bird?

Hi everyone,

There is a bird stuck in a garage in the Loop- I just found out about
it Friday. It has been there for nearly a year poor thing- someone has
been feeding it fortunately. I thought maybe it was a nesting sparrow
situation but it is not.

It evidently flew in from street level and there are no other openings
to the outside. It is on the 6th floor or so. It is in a heavy bird
collision and disorientation area near Wacker and Franklin. I want to
set up a trap with seed to catch this bird, make sure it is OK, and
release it. I am working with a sub-permit from a federal wildlife
rehabber now and will consult with her.

Does anyone know of a safe bird trap for a sparrow/finch sized bird? It
is definitely a seed eater but I can't tell what kind it is
specifically.

I have seen a trap used to catch and study yellow-headed blackbirds at
McHenry Dam but I don't know what kind of trap it was. I think it might
work. Does anyone know about that project or have contact info on the
ornithologist that ran the study there?

Any ideas on humane bird traps and/or possible leads on biologists or
others using such devices? These guys at the building have tried other
methods and are running short on patience at this point.

Thanks for any help with this!
