I'm passing this along from Gail and Emil Biedron -

Please post this on BCN alert, Friends of the Forest
Preserve list and any other groups which may be willing to attack this
problem. Action must be taken quickly.

--------------
Construction has started on a 240 foot Cook County Sheriff's Police
Department Radio Tower on Cook County Forest Preserve property. It is
located in the John Duffy Preserve at the Sag Valley Headquarters site,
a few blocks east of Will-Cook Rd. on the south side of McCarthy
Rd.(123rd St.). This tower is located between two wetland areas,
Tampier Slough and Bergman Slough. Saganaskee Slough and other wetlands
are also in the area. This will be a major hazard for all birds. The
1670 acre Cap Sauers Holdings, a Dedicated Nature Preserve, is also in
close proximity.
This tower is going to be huge, the frame work looks like a high tension
electric tower. This is definitely not a cell phone mono pole. It is
outrageous that it is being put on forest preserve land owned by all of
citizens in Cook County, but locating it near a wetland is
unforgivable. Action must be taken quickly. Is there an organization
which could do an inquiry into this and help stop the construction?
