Sadly I have only seen one crow in my yard in the past month or so. This =
may not be a problem for some because a lot of people do not like crows, =
but I do. They are always entertaining and they are smart. One winter I =
placed pistachio nuts on my patio. The crows quickly figured out how to =
crack open the shells. They wedged their beaks into the tiny openings =
and pounded the shells on the concrete. What a sight!=20

David Quammen in a "Natural Acts" article described crows best. "Crows =
are bored. They suffer from being too intelligent for their station in =
life.......Crows are not stupid. They are merely underachievers".=20

David Quammen was right on point.=20

Come winter things will be better and the crows will return. I am =
looking forward to hearing their caws and watching their antics. Crows =
really do have an attitude.=20

This is truly touching. I guess, what they have been saying since =
the days of 2 billion passenger pigeons is true. =20

You never appreciate something that you have, until it is gone. =20

    A Pause

    High in a summer tree

    Imitable shiny black utterances

    Inspire interspecies communication

Voice boxes exchange melody, cadence, rhythm

    Caw! Caw! Caw!

Now West Nile virus chokes all

Seldom can shiny blackness be found

Silence in trees, skies and all around

    Caw! Caw! Caw!

    Can nowhere be found.
