Here is the latest news...
Thanks to your support and many others. The Glen Ellyn Environmental Comm
voted unanimously 7-0 to not recommend the Com Ed/DuPage Cty Trail tree
removal plan (AKA "Vegetation Mgmt."). The Glen Ellyn Village Board is likely
to vote on their recommendation at their next meeting on 6/24. We need
letters to these folks too, see below.
At a separate meeting, the DuPage Cty Environmental Commission also raised
many concerns about the plan and decided not to support the plan. They had so
many concerns they decided to draft a letter to the County and Com Ed about
the plan. Thanks again for your support. Please pass along the news.
The Glen Ellyn Village Board President and Trustees should hear from all
trail supporters before 6/24 (the next possible meeting when the Board may
vote on the plan). Send your comments and questions about the DuPage Cty/Com
Ed "Vegetation Management (really the removal of 600 trees)" plan to be
"tested" on both the Illinois Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail. Send
your comments to the Village Board of Trustees and President, Village of Glen
Ellyn, 535 Duane St, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
Please ask neighbors, friends and co-workers (even people outside of Glen
Ellyn) to contact them. The Village of Lombard has raised many questions
about the trail tree removal plan. If we can get the Village of Glen Ellyn to
do the same, we will have made great progress in our effort to get a better
deal from Com Ed and DuPage Cty on their tree trimming/removal plans. Thanks
for your support of our efforts!
Note both the Friends of the Great Western Trail and the Illinois Prairie
Path have yet to receive answers from Com Ed or DuPage Cty about the plan
submitted on 3/29 and 4/3. If you have not yet written to the DuPage Cty
officials please do so now. Write or email the following officials with your
concerns about their trail tree/vegetation management/removal plan:
