Friends of the Parks is rescheduling the 63rd Street Beach Study
presentation on Monday, October 29, 2001 (please see the previously
posted press release below).  It plans to organize and cohost (with other
groups) a public forum on March 6, 2002 at South Shore Cultural Center at
6:30 p.m.  The forum will be:  "Beach Closing:  What is the Cause? What
Can be Done?"  If any groups are interested in co-hosting the forum,
please contact Friends of the Parks at (312)857-2757.  

Friends of the Parks will continue to work with the Department of the
Environment to obtain a copy of the city-commissioned USGS report by Dr.
Richard Whitman on E. coli contamination at 63rd Street Beach, when it is
released.  To check on the status or for further questions, please

FRIENDS OF THE PARKS WILL HOST A PRESENTATION OF THE 63RD STREET BEACH
STUDY BY THE UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY AND THE CITY OF CHICAGO
DEPARTMENT OF THE ENVIRONMENT

October 29, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. (Chicago, IL) - Friends of the Parks will
host
a presentation of the 63rd Street Beach Study conducted by the United
States
Geological Survey and adopted by the City of Chicago.  The presentation
will
include the data and results of the study, status of the beach
conditions,
implication on Lake Michigan and water quality, and steps to enhance 63rd
Street Beach.

Joining Friends of the Parks will be The City of Chicago Department of
the
Environment and United States Geological Survey who will be conducting
the
presentation.  Please join us on October 29, 2001 at 6:30 p.m. at Friends
of
the Parks located at 55 East Washington, Suite 1911.  

In an effort to promote communities and individuals working together
to improve our lakefront and city's parks, Friends of the Parks' has been
designed on the premise that every neighborhood park and every lakefront
beach should be clean, safe and well maintained.  We encourage community
members to take ownership of community resources and help enhance,
protect,
and preserve local open spaces.  Working together and educating the
community on local issues will assist in efforts to protect our lakefront
and water quality.  The presentation will allow the citizen's of Chicago
understanding of the status of the lakefront and importance of
stewardship.
